Al Murison (Bikeshed UEX) won the large bunch kick at today’s Omega Circuits held in the South Winchester Park and Ride. The twenty two year old from Portsmouth showed his class in the sprint managing to hold off the charge of Deacon Cutterham (NFTO) and Mitch Webber (Pedal Heaven Colbornes) over the hour race plus five laps.

The race split into two groups after ten minutes of racing when seven riders got a gap and four chasers split from the remains of the bunch. It then took the leaders a further forty minutes for them to pass the chasers, who in turn attached themselves to the back to form a large group, although a lap down.

As the time ticked away the front group all stayed together and the race was heading for a bunch sprint. Not fancying his chances in the sprint Joshua Lawless (L’union cyclist Hennebont) tried to break free but within half a lap he was pulled back.

Murison was the looking for a gap with 500m to go when it opened up in front of him and he sprinted for the line winning it clearly from Deacon and Mitch.

The morning got underway with a fourth cat race which was won by Andy Pickett the local rider from VC Venta from James Peckham (Sotonia). Andy had got away as soon as the race got underway with team mate Paul Double and they soon built up a lead but Andy was too quick for his younger team mate and he slipped back to the chasing group.

Andy soon built up a lead of 24secs over now a chasing group of seven which in turn was lead by Peckham right up until the bell. At the bell Andy Double lead by 24secs from Peckham who in turn was just a couple of seconds clear of the chasing group.

The Women’s race was next with just six entries and unfortunately two riders were distanced after ten minutes of racing. The remaining four raced together for the rest of the race and it was junior rider Sophie-Jo Wylie Morris taking the sprint on the line.

The third cat race saw a lot of action but the race never really split throughout despite Edward Sutton (Wightlink LCM Systems) and Duncan Lancashire (Andover Wheelers) pulling clear. Edward was first out the bottom corner and pulled away from Duncan to win clearly with Edwards team mate James Ebdon winning the sprint over the remainder of the bunch.
