The event took place on the 10 mile course on the A77 just south of Glasgow, this undulating and usually very windy course tested the riders’ ability to pace themselves as well as show off their out and out speed over the distance.
A fantastic field of 56 U14 and U16 competitors took to the road to compete for 8 titles, 4 individual and 4 team titles. With several 2013 medallists returning in 2014 looking to repeat their success or carry it forward into a new age-category.
The strong field of 44 Senior and Junior riders, including 7 ladies, complimented the youth race with everyone looking to get a good time in one of the last time trials of the season. In the U14 girls category the win was taken by Lusia Steele for the Johnstone Jets in a time of 28:04. Adding yet another title to her name as she recently was crowned the Scottish scratch and omnium champion. In a closely contested 2nd place was Laurie Adamson of the Stewarty Wheelers completing the course in 29:12 and on the 3rd step just missing out on 2nd was Fiona Thomson also from Stewarty Wheelers. She finished in a time of 29:16. The team prize was won by the Stewarty wheelers duo of Laurie Adamson and Fiona Thomson.
The victor of the U14 boy’s category was Glasgow Riderz, Jonathon Hilbourne battling the course in a very impressive time of 24:47 beating most of the U16 riders. 2nd place was Sean Dupree from the East Kilbride Road Club finishing with a time of 25:27. 3rd was taken by Alfred George of Dundee Discovery Junior Cycling Club only a first year Youth B in a time of 25:42. The team prize was taken by the team of Jonathan Hilbourne and Jack Cruden of the Glasgow Riderz.
1st place in the U16 girls went to Rhona Callander from Stirling Bike Club claiming herself as queen of the Road also winning the Scottish Road Race Championships at the start of August. She flew through the course in the time of 25:33. 2nd place was Sarah Bradford of the Johnstone Jets who finished in a time of 26:21. Claiming 3rd place was Emma Borthwick of Edinburgh RC completing the course in 27:40. The winners of the team prize were Jess Millar and Sarah Bradford of the Johnstone Jets.
The champion of the U14 boys last year Joseph Nally of www.Hardie-Bikes.com returned this year but in a new age-category. He took top step in U16 Boys winning in a time of 23:37 proving he hasn’t lost his time trialling ability since last year. 2nd was Grant Martin of Spokes Race Team finishing in a time of 23:48. Unfortunately collecting another silver medal at a Scottish Championship to add to his many… 3rd was Max McMurdo from Team Vortex; he completed the course in 24:01. The victors of the team prize were the Glasgow Riderz team of Andrew Vettraino and Ewan Mathieson.
The winner of the Junior category was Kyle Johnstone of East Kilbride Road Club. He crossed the line in time of 23:44. The victors of the Senior male and female category were Claire Hamilton and Peter Murdoch. Hamilton of Paisley Velo Cycling Club completed the course in a time of 24:57.
