The West Midlands road race work group is proud to present the 2023 West Midlands road calendar, with 16 race weekends between mid March and early September.

“I would like to thank all the race organisers who stepped forward and committed well ahead of 2023 and everyone else who made the 2022 races happen, Accredited Marshals, drivers, NEG, commissaires,” said West Midlands board road lead William Fotheringham. “With several new races coming on stream, and with the relaunch of the Thursday evening handicap series, there is a substantial increase in the calendar over 2022.”

As in 2022, there are two rounds of the women’s Team Cup, in conjunction with the Solihull road race and Nick Clayton Memorial, on the popular circuits at Inkberrow and Welland. Inkberrow also hosts the regional championships on June 11. The BikeStow 3-day returns at the end of June for a second year again sponsored by local bike storage systems maker BikeStow; the Alan Goddard Memorial is run for the first time since 2019, while both Wyre Forest and Lichfield will organise Regional B races.

“Our objective for 2022 was to stabilise the weekend calendar after the disruption caused by Covid, and to bring in two races that act as a focus with the return of the Regional champs and the inception of the BikeStow 3-day,” said Fotheringham. “Our partners Fusion Media were really helpful with that process, we’d like to thank them for their support.”

“With the calendar stabilised, the next priority is to reboot the lower end of the ladder, so we will have two extra Regional B races, plus hopefully the circuits at Cosford, and the handicap league. We are also looking at adding a Women’s regional champ if we can combine with another region or two.”
