Q: How long have you been racing?
Xander: I’ve been racing since I was about four years old. It all started with local crits, MTB and cyclocross events, and from there it just snowballed. I’ve loved every step of the journey so far, and even though I’ve already had some great experiences, it still feels like I’m only just getting started.

Q: What results are you most proud of from your cycling career so far?
Xander: A few really stand out — winning the Scottish Youth National Crit, MTB and TT titles in 2025 was a massive achievement for me. But getting my first top 5 in a Spanish road race was also a big moment. It showed me that I can perform against strong international fields, and that motivates me to keep pushing forward.

Q: How would you sum up your 2025 season?
Xander: It’s been an incredible season — Scottish National titles and medals across MTB, Road, TT, Track and Cyclocross, and finishing it off with two Scottish National Series wins in MTB and Cyclocross. Stepping up to Junior UCI Cyclocross has been a big challenge, but I’ve adapted well with two top 5s and a top 10. I’ve learned so much about race craft, training, and what it takes to compete consistently at the highest level.

Q: What was the highlight of 2025?
Xander: Racing in Spain at the 53rd Ciclismo Trofee was definitely a highlight. It was a tough two-stage race with some incredible competition, and to come away with two top 10 results was a great confidence boost. The whole experience — racing abroad, representing my team, and testing myself in the heat — was brilliant.

Q: What race was the toughest in 2025?
Xander: Falkirk National Trophy was absolutely brutal, It’s a hard course even in the dry, but when the rain and wind arrived it turned into a proper battle — steep run-ups, slick descents, and heavy conditions from start to finish. But I actually love racing in those moments — the tougher the conditions, the better I seem to perform. Falkirk always delivers that true cyclocross challenge.

Q: What was the worst luck you had to endure during a race in 2025?
Xander: Rounds 1 and 2 of the Hope Supercross were tough on luck. I had great legs both days, but a crash and a mechanical in one round and a mechanical in the other cost me two potential top 10 results. It’s frustrating, but that’s part of racing — it teaches resilience and keeps you grounded.

Q: What race was the most fun or enjoyable in 2025?
Xander: The World Cup in Benidorm was incredible — the atmosphere was unreal with the crowds, the heat, and the energy of the whole event. Starting at the back of the grid and fighting through to a top 10 made it even more special.

Getting to represent Ride For Charlie and wear the jersey , it was an amazing honour and something I’m looking forward to do in January 2026 again.

Q: Does the travel to races add to the adventure of racing your bike?
Xander: Absolutely. Travelling is one of the best parts of racing — seeing new places, racing different styles of courses, and learning how to adapt to whatever conditions are thrown at you. Every trip teaches me something new and that adds to the sense of adventure.

Q: Was 2025 a learning season and if so, what lesson learnt was outstanding?
Xander: It’s been a huge learning year. The biggest lesson has been about consistency — staying healthy, managing recovery, and being ready to perform week after week. The jump to Junior racing has really shown me how important the small details are — every bit of preparation counts when the margins are so tight.

Q: What team are you racing for in 2026?
Xander: I’ll be racing with Prologue Racing Team, and I’m really excited about it. It’s the perfect next step for me in terms of development, structure, and support. The team environment and opportunities they’re creating for young riders are amazing, and I can’t wait to get started.

Q: Finally, who are the key people who are helping you to race and progress in the sport of cycling?
Xander: My family and friends have been the biggest support from day one — especially my dad, who’s also my coach, and Chris who’s always there in the pits. My teammates, and everyone at Scott Sports UK, have been a huge help too.

I really appreciate all the time, effort, and patience everyone’s given me over the last few years as I’ve developed as a rider. None of it happens without that support team behind me.

Thank you Xander for an awesome Q&A and good luck with the team in 2026!! Anyone wanting to join in and send a Q&A based on these questions, please do. Its great to get insights into a riders season racing their bicycle ;-)
