FEATURE: Question time with James Calvert, stepping up from the youth ranks with an impressive pedigree, James is the latest addition to the Prologue Junior Racing Team roster ahead of the 2026 season.

A multi-discipline rider with standout performances in both cyclocross and road, Calvert has already made a name for himself with his sharp race craft and natural talent. With Prologue preparing for a packed calendar of European UCI and UK domestic races, Calvert takes on his first junior season with one of the UK’s most ambitious Junior development squads.

VeloUK caught up with James to talk about his 2025 season, his goals for 2026, and what excites him most about the move to Prologue Racing Team:

Q: How long have you been racing?
James: I did my first race when I was about 6 years old just a local event, nothing serious but I was hooked straight away and have been racing ever since.

Q: How would you sum up your 2025 season?
James: With 2025 being my first season focusing on road, it was definitely a big learning curve and an eye-opening experience. One I thoroughly enjoyed and provided the ideal stepping stone to junior racing next year.

Q: What was the highlight of 2025?
James: My highlight of 2025 would have to be the summer crits. The fast and punchy racing suited me well and saw me get a national podium in my first season on the road.

Q: What race was the toughest in 2025?
James: I think the toughest race for me this year was Otley GP. It was my biggest goal in the season and I had a plan I wanted to try made months in advance on how I was going to win. I had a good race and managed to execute my plan perfectly but it didn’t work out how I anticipated and I came away from the race disappointed with the outcome.

Q: What was the worst luck you had to endure during a race in 2025?
James: I had my fair share of bad luck in 2025 but if I had to choose one race it would Pembrey national. I was sitting top 10 in the bunch and perfectly positioned for the sprint until there was a big crash taking out most of the field. I snapped my bike in half but thankfully managed to only come away minor injuries but it was definitely a tough one

Q: What team are you racing for in 2026
James: In 2026, I’ll be racing on the road with Prologue Racing Team, which I’m really excited about. It feels like the right step for me — a great environment to keep progressing and developing as a rider. I’ll also continue racing cyclocross with Rotor Race Team for the foreseeable future

Q: Finally, who are the key people who are helping you to race and progress in the sport of cycling?
James: I think the key people for me are my parents and family for sure. Alongside them I couldn’t do things without the help from my coach Dan who I have been working with for 3 years now.

Thanks James for an awesome insight into your racing and good luck through the winter and next season in 2026 ….
