Tom Pidcock: “When I’m good, people say there are three kings of cyclocross, but then I can do a race where I’m less good and then there are only two kings”.

Tom Pidcock on the Cross Worlds & Ineos
On the French Cyclism’Actu website, Tom Pidcock is quoted as saying “I’m trying to confirm my place at the top with these guys (Van der Poel and Van Aert). When I’m good, people say there are three kings of cyclocross, but then I can do a race where I’m less good and then there are only two kings. I want to try to confirm my spot with these guys. That’s my ambition” Pidcock added.

The British champion though admits he doesn’t like the sandy course and intends to attack it. “If I take the lead, then I can go faster. I’m always better when I do my own race” he said. “It will be on sand and the last race on sand was in Antwerp. It’s the only one I’ve done on sand this season and it’s not ideal for me. It’s probably the worst for me but in the end the best will be ahead, unless I make a lot of mistakes, which I don’t hope”.
Ineos – The day after his last cyclo-cross of the season, Tom Pidcock will officially be a rider for the INEOS Grenadiers team. It will be a big step forward for the 21-year-old rider who will discover a new world. “My first race with INEOS should have been a mountain bike race, but it was canceled. I will still be doing mountain biking, cyclocross and road riding; that’s the plan. At the moment, I’m just focused on the coming weekend and I don’t know my road schedule yet because the first races have been cancelled. I think I’ll do the opening weekend of the Classics but after that I’m not sure. I already feel at home on this team” says Pidcock. “I feel like after Sunday, the first phase of my career will be over and phase two will start as a pro in an elite team. And it starts on February 1.”
