Taking a look at Galibier’s Tourmalet rain cape with reflective strips that will roll up into the back pocket ready for the heavens to try and catch you out

Product News – Rain Cape

I, perhaps more than many, am very suspicious of the weather here in Blighty and having an emergency waterproof in the rear pocket is essential. I may never have been a scout but being prepared is certainly an essential motto for any cyclist.
The back of the jacket …Â Â Note the zip which when opened, gives you access to the pockets in the jersey underneath.
… and the front
So I was quite pleased when a rain cape from Galibier arrived in the post. Without reading the blurb on their website about the item, first impressions were of a quality product. I’ve had jackets from well known high street brands in outdoor stores and you can see the corners that are cut like the waterproofing of the seams being very messy.
This jacket how looks quality inside and out. It’s in black and as you can see from the pictures, has reflective strips in it. As some one who has trouble with zips, I was glad I did not have that with the full length one on this jacket. There’s another zip on the back of the coat which is not a pocket but an opening to access the pockets in a jersey underneath without having to lift the coat tail up.
And it’s light and can be rolled up to easily fit in a rear pocket when not in use. It comes in sizes up to 2XL and that fitted me, just, and was very comfortable on.
Pics to show the reflective strips so important now that many riders will be riding in the dark.
With the name Tourmalet, it’s got cycling written all over it: Here are some specs:
— Long splash tail- right to the saddle.
— Easy pull, (even in gloves) no snag, zip.
— Machine washable (30 degrees only)
— 8 reflective trim elements.
— Durable, as usual we stand over ALL our products.
The vent at the top of the jacket to let the heat from the ‘engine’ out.
The blurb on the website says “Our third sample jacket survived racing in a three hour rain storm and we were delighted. The structure of the jacket is the material, nearly three square meters of HydraStop membrane used in each jacket. With a stylish cut and added visibility strips, the jacket is smooth and sleek and whilst I never got to test it in the cold as the weather has been warm of late, I have no reason to doubt that will also keep the person wearing it warm in winter conditions.

Whilst I am a dry weather cyclist, I will be tempted out now in changeable conditions knowing I have protection from that wet stuff should the heavens open. Thanks to Galibier for the opportunity to take a look at it.
A zip that didn’t haven’t me swearing at it – result!
