1. What were your highlights in 2015?
Jason: Has to be Gold at the BC Masters National Crit Champs and winning the first edition of the Dorset Cycle League.
2. What races are you looking forward to most next season and why?
Jason: I love fast flat criterium races of which there are plenty on the calendar for 2016 but have yet to decide my main objectives.
3. What race was the most fun in 2015 and why?
Jason: I rode the Amateur World Championships in Denmark which was great. Closed road, great support along the route and a fun road trip with some laughs along the way thanks to a new team mate for next year, Jason Gault.
4. What’s the best piece of cycling related advice you’ve ever been given that has made a difference and who gave it to you?
Jason: The late Geoff Shergold once told me “never service your bike yourself”. Not because he wanted my business but because I’m pretty rubbish with an allen key!
5. Tell us about your winter training bike, what is different about it compared to your race bike?
Jason: I’ve ridden Specialized bikes for the last six years, a Sworks Venge with Di2 and 60mm Rovals for racing and an Allez for training. The Venge is set for a fast finish with Zipp Sprint SL bars, stem and Shimano Sprint Shifters whereas the Allez is built for comfort and fitted with mudguards. Both reliable and up to their given task although the Allez is twice the weight of the Venge but I guess that’s no bad thing.
6. How will you spend December on the bike – at home or abroad, long miles only or a mixture of intervals and miles and bike only or gym/cross training too?
Jason: December is at home and mainly long miles. My commute to work is 27 miles minimum each way so I usually add a few more on the way home. I do long intervals twice a week, 3 x 20 minute efforts or similar and a lot of tempo.
January I will be off to Tenerife for a few winter miles and some threshold work before a few early season races. As for other training, I have a circuit in my garage which I do 4 or 5 times a week all through the year. It’s a mix of core and plyometric based exercises and only takes around 20 minutes. Any longer and I get bored.
