The riders set off under blue skies and after a break of four had been pulled back, Simon Gaywood, a former winner back in 2003, took the prime on lap 2.
Eventual winner Andrew Griffiths then took flight with Tim Elverson of the Pedal Heaven team and they were soon joined by a group of five. The break included Simon Gaywood (IG-Sigma Sport), James Moss (Node 4 Giordana), Sandy King (Loughborough Uni), Andrew Hastings (Metaltek-Scott), Andrew Griffiths, and Douglas Coleman (CC Luton).
James Moss was looking strong, taking the prime on lap six and with the race getting to the business end of the event, the bunch was now full gas chasing and bringing down the lead of the break. The seven soon became nine though as Sybrandy and Ashley Cox (Corley Cycles) joined the leaders while behind them, Marcin Bialoblocki was doing his best to get up there as well.
A chase group of five soon formed as the pace of the chase saw splits in the peloton but the break held firm and two excellent time trialists took first and second in an excellent result for IG-Sigma Sport with Griffiths gaping Sybrandy on the climb up to the finish.
