2nd May – Week 1 of the Castle Combe Summer Series & riders turned out in force to race and some excellent performances across all categories were recorded.

In all the years of promoting and competing at the circuit I’m not sure I can remember such a perfect evening with clear skies, very little breeze and warm sunshine….

Riders turned out in force to race and some excellent performances across all categories were recorded. As always the youth riders continue to show such incredible enthusiasm and some great finishes in youth categories were forthcoming last night in the sunny conditions.

A large field of 3rd and 4th category riders lined up to tackle the 17 laps that lay ahead. As expected the keenness and perhaps limited experience of some newcomers to bunched racing meant that the standard of riding was “interesting” according to a number of experienced competitors. Consideration is being given to holding a separate 3rd’s, 4th’s and E/1/2 race in future.

The E/1/2 race was run off at a frantic pace with the average speed for the 30 miles very close to 30mph. Current Olympic and World Champion Danni King raced with the E/1/2 field after a 75km training ride in the morning.

The results of the two races remain provisional for the time being due to the failure of the camera to record the 3rd’s/4th’s race in still pictures. It captured the finish on video and the majority of riders have been captured. However, if you do believe that you were in the top ten of the 3rd’s & 4th’s race and have some proof we’d be delighted to hear from you. Particularly the rider wearing a pink Giro d’Italia top who finished 4th on the night.

We are content that the result of the E/1/2 race is correct from the photograph of the finish.
