The final event of the Aberystwyth Cycling Festival weekend, the second Continental Welsh Wild West Sportive takes place on Sunday 25th May 2014.

Aberystwyth and the surrounding area of Ceredigion boast some of the quietest and most scenic roads in the UK, with the backdrop of Cardigan Bay and Cambrian mountain range to ensure an enjoyable day in the saddle.
Choose from three distances of:
40 miles (Y Corrach – http://www.abercyclefest.com/y-corach),
70 miles (Y Mynach – http://www.abercyclefest.com/y-mynach) &
100 miles (Y Cawr – http://www.abercyclefest.com/y-cawr) miles, tackling the counties major climbs including Nant y Moch, the alleged hideout of the last indigenous Prince of Wales,
Owain Glyndwr, The Arch near the famous Devils Bridge falls which sports a mysterious stone ‘arch’ across the summit of the climb and Tychrug near Lampeter which is perhaps one of the most under rated road climbs in Wales with views of three counties from the summit.
Sponsored by Continental Tyres, the event is backed up by Continental UK’s fleet of four ‘service course’ vehicles, and two motorcycle stewards. Each competitor also receives a free gift from the sponsor, and feed stations are backed up by High 5. The free homemade cooking at the Race HQ at the finish is also not to be missed.
2013 event testimonials :
“.. without a doubt amongst the very best sportives I have ridden, and I have done a few now! Everything ran like clockwork on the day, right amount of marshals, well signed, friendly volunteers at feed stations, which were superbly stocked…. food at the finish was excellent and much needed after a strenuous but very rewarding and scenic route..” Phil Paul – Newtown
“I just wanted to add my congrats to the organisation team and volunteers on putting on a great event. We were blessed with good organisation, great weather and Marshals that did a truly outstanding job. I have no doubt that the people will be talking of this for weeks to come and what a great event it was.” Dominic Brown – BA Hons, MBCS, PGCE /PCET Student
“Llongyfarchiadau ar benwythnos llwyddiannus iawn. Da iawn. Nes i fwynhau cael mynd fyny Nant y Moch eto !â€(Congratulations on a brilliantly successful weekend. I enjoyed the climb of Nant y Moch again!) Meirion Davies – Bethesda
“The organisation was excellent, the marshals and helpers were very friendly and supportive (It’s amazing what a smiling face and a few claps can do as you are struggling up Penglais after a few hundred yards). For me it was an amazing spectacle culminating in the sportive on Sunday. The events showed off Aberystwyth and Ceredigion in all their glory. I’m sure it will go from strength to strength.†Simon Ward
“A brilliantly organised event. Lots of marshals lining the course who were all very friendly. The food stop was well stocked with energy drink, gels, flapjacks/cakes and helpful marshals. The scenic route was one of the best I’ve done. Quiet roads but all in very good condition surface wise. Ample signs and very well organised for such a small event which will hopefully grow Bakers’ (Cyclosport.org)
“Some awesome scenery on the Welsh Wild West sportive ride. Dean Downing (Madison-Genesis professional cycling team)
“Some lovely cycling roads at the @AberCycleFest sportive today. Fantastic support from @ContiTyres . Put it in your diary for next year!†Liam Holohan (Madison-Genesis professional cycling team)
The event is run by Ystwyth Cycling club who have been organising races and events in the area since the 1950’s, including Pearl Izumi Tour Series, The Tour of Mid Wales and The ‘Conquer the Cliff’ Downhill Race.
Why not spend all weekend in this University coastal town to enjoy the thrills & spills of the criterium racing on the Friday evening, the Cliff Downhill MTB races on Saturday before taking on your own challenge on Sunday in this Continental Welsh Wild West Sportive.
