Prendas Ciclismo Winter Jacket in GORE Windstopper Fuga – A practical windproof jacket to keep you riding throughout the Winter by Santini £125.00
From Prendas Ciclismo
Â
New for 2014/15 Winter, a carefully put together Winter jacket for you in two great colours that has all of the features that prendas (who are long time cyclists) consider to be essential for a sensible Winter jacket. Hand made in Italy by Santini, this jacket is made from GORE Windstopper which does an excellent job of keeping you insulated through the cold Winter months.
Prendas are delighted with the result of their collective efforts on this one!
Prendas explain “Taking the SLEEK2 Winter jacket as a basis, we have taken all of the features that we wanted to see in a jacket to keep us warm, without adding any unnecessary embellishment – which would have added unnecessary cost. We’ve been riding for decades, so we’ve had a number of jackets that have been and gone, and it’s not always the most expensive ones that have all of the good ideas”.
“Prior to supporting the Matrix Fitness Team, we’ve always been a bit sheepish of having our branding and logos plastered all over everything, preferring the subtle and discreet, but we all feel we’ve achieved a good balance between logo visibility and subtly. Once again, Santini’s head designer Fergus Niland provided a tremendous amount of knowledge and support guiding us through.”
The GORE Windstopper FUGA fabric is a windproof membrane that has also been treated to repel water (it’s not waterproof) and we have added fabric inserts throughout the jacket to allow it to move with you on the bike – whilst the elasticated jacquard band on the bottom hem keeps it in place. A high Super Roubaix collar and cuffs complete the fabric used.
One of the issues Prendas wanted to address was that with some Winter jackets there is a huge zipped rear pocket, something they are not a fan of. “On a long ride” they explained, “it’s good to be able to compartmentalize your tools, food, spares, etc and with the added fourth rear zipped pocket, your valuables will be safe too. On the top edge of the pockets, there is a 3M reflective strip for added visibility, even on the Fluro version!
By buying direct, we have kept the price to a reasonable £125 which we appreciate is not cheap, but then using GORE fabrics is never going to be the cheapest way to produce a garment, but it does give you some of the most breathable, warm and windproof fabrics that money can buy. They are not a market leader for nothing …
