Cotswold based bike shop and cycling club, Performance Cycles have today announced their team line up for 2015. Following on from a successful 2014 which saw the shop’s team grow and cause problems for the more established teams in the south west, 2015 sees them take a step forward again.
The men’s senior team has retained the services of top local riders Dan Guest, Tony Kiss and Rory Gilling and added strength and depth to the team by bringing in Joe Barry and Michael Ward along with ex-UK Youth and Raleigh pro James Stewart. This core of six riders will also use their experience to help develop riders from within the club and also from the growing youth development squad.
2015 also sees the formalisation of the Performance Cycles women’s team – which came together from within the club in 2014. The girls will benefit from the same level of support as the guys as they develop, and will also be tasked with encouraging and working with other female club members who are keen to give racing a go but don’t know where to start. There is currently space on the women’s team for an additional rider or two, and anyone interested being part of this exciting project should send their cycling CV to sales@performancecycles.co.uk
The final piece of the 2015 puzzle is the youth development / junior team – which has again developed from within the club. A strong mix of junior and under 16 riders mean there is real potential for the future, and with an previous junior national TT champ in James Stewart in the senior team the young riders have got a wealth of experience they can call on as they progress in the sport.
Andy Kirk, Performance Cycles owner told us “2015 looks like a really exciting year for the club and the team. It’s been a long term plan to build a development team for young riders to progress up to a high level and for us to then be able to pass them on to bigger teams. We’re also really happy to be supporting a women’s team for the first time in 2015, it’s a growing area of the sport and one we’re keen to do as much as we can to help develop.â€
The team will continue to be supported by Kuota Bikes and Reynolds wheels, and in 2015 welcome new sponsors / team partners MET helmets, GSG clothing, OptiLabs sunglasses, Les Slinn personal Training (Swindon) and Velosure Insurance.
A full team launch is due to take place in the spring after the teams Gran Canaria training camp.
