VeloUK’s Question and Answer feature with Tom Bowering of Team Ride 24/7 who’s season is expected to start in MarchÂ
![]() |
Feature: Tom Bowering Q&A
1. When will you start your road season and what will be the first race?
Tom: March will be the beginning of my road season where more than likely, the first race will be the Severn Bridge Road Race or whatever the team manager would like me to do.
2. What races will be your targets for 2016 and why?
Tom: I’d really like to have a good consistent early season. More than likely I will be targeting races such as Severn Bridge, Evesham Vale, Chorley GP and I would really like a good crack at the Rutland Classic if the opportunity arises.
3. How will you spend the time on the bike between now and your first race in training? Long miles or cutting back to do top end efforts?
Tom: I shall be preparing with long miles and power efforts. I’ll try and get a good mix in to help me make overall progress.
4. What was your favourite Xmas present?
Tom: I was very lucky this year present wise, but I would have to say a Tassimo coffee maker would be the top for me.
5. When it rains, which its doing a lot right now, is it turbo time or wrap up and get wet?
Tom: Unfortunately I get out there and get the miles in but an Assos Sturmprinz really helps ease the way through the nasty weather!
6. If you could do any race in the world including the best ones in the world etc, what would it be and why?
Tom: That’s a very easy question for me. Paris Roubaix has always taken my eye. I love the challenge and the monument classics are without a doubt the best and most impressive races out there, but Paris Roubaix is “the monument” for me.
7. What piece of food can you not do without where ever you are on the road during the season!
Tom: A Tabby bar. A protein/carbohydrate bar full of natural ingredients. It’s perfect for after race and whilst your riding. It easy to digest and easily edible. It’s perfect for what I need. Unfortunately, I can get a little greedy.
8. What is your favourite music track when warming up for a race or on the turbo?
Tom: I think it would have to be “Get Back” by Ludacris. It seems to get me really pumped for a race!
9. If given the option, would you prefer normal brakes or disc brakes on your road bike?
Tom: I think normal brakes for me, it’s what I’m comfortable with. I think I would be pretty weary of the power of the disc brakes especially when riding in the bunch.
10. What’s the spec of your race bike for 2016 and your favourite bits on it? (include a pic or two if you have them!)
Tom: Fortunately I will have two bikes to race on this year. A Wilier Zero 7 and a Wilier Cento uno Air. Both fitted with Dura ace 9000 mechanical and carbon throughout. I’ll be riding on size 58cm frame, both with FSA finishing kits. Very much looking forward to riding on these bikes this year absolutely stunning, in sight and performance.
