A TOP BIRTHDAY
At the end of a very eventful Women’s Team Series race held near Banbury organised by Mike Hicks and Banbury Star CC, birthday girl Charlotte Alston, Team 22, strongly out rode the main break of 17 riders who from a maximum gap of 52 seconds to just 24 seconds at the finish line.
Happy Charlotte told us “The first lap my legs felt awful but the first time up the main hill the bunch split dramatically and I was determined to stay near the front so that was a good move. Then a large group of us got away and we worked well.
“I was not feeling too good each time up the hill but there were a few small attacks in the last 5 kilometres but just tried to neutralise those then onto the hill just managed to come around Rose and Fiona so it all worked out well. First time I have won a prestigious race as a Team Series and it is my birthday today as well, nice present”

While the race started in glorious sunshine, and finished in glorious sunshine, it did however  power through a deluge and a hailstorm….let alone facing Banbury Start’s infamous Edge Hill QOM challenge, which Annabel Fisher of Neon Velo monstered up each time to win the award by a significant margin.
