News: 2023 Mildenhall Cycling Mini-Fest

This year’s Cycling Mini-Fest will be concentrating on the Gravel events and on a new date instead of its traditional August Bank-Holiday weekend! The event will take place on Sunday 16th July at its traditional venue of West Row Village Hall and still also have the Cycle Jumble, which this year will be a Table-Top Sale inside the Hall,” explained Mark Burchett, Chairman of the organisers, Mildenhall Cycling Club.

He added “Regrettably though we aren’t in a position this year to include the grass-track racing, that the Club has been renowned for since the 1960’s. We have left it as late as we could before confirming this year’s line-up of events, while we explored ways of still including grass-track racing at this year’s event.”

After a distinguished career of competing in and organising grass-track racing, spanning over fifty years, Max Pendleton has decided to stand down from organising it at Mildenhall and will be a very hard act to follow. The organisers are however, expecting to be able to resume the Club’s fine tradition of promoting grass-track racing in 2024.

The range of Gravel events is being expanded so that in addition to the main Seniors course over 20km, there will now be a separate Juveniles race for 13–16 year-olds, which will be totally off-road. Being over 10km it will provide a real test to the younger riders.

There will also be a ‘Come and Try It Ride’ for those interested in Gravel riding but who aren’t so sure about doing it against the clock. This will be open to anyone of all ages at a more relaxed pace.

Mildenhall Cycling Club will be providing light refreshments and drinks all day in the village hall and at lunchtime Jacket Potatoes with a variety of fillings. In the afternoon the licensed bar in the village hall will be open as well.

Further details of the Mini-Fest will be available at www.mildenhallfestival.bike
