Friday night saw a big night of Mid Shropshire Wheelers cyclocross at Shrewsbury Sports Village with winners including Teleri Rowlands, Isaac Vickery and Sam Morris – brought to you by Dave Mellor Cycles

The fourth of five Friday Night Cyclo-Cross events saw Mr VeloUK Larry Hickmott make the very long journey to Shrewsbury Sports Village from his Yorkshire base and what a night he picked to record for posterity as we had our very first evening where Hafren CCs Teleri Rowlands became the first girl to take the overall win in any category. And we all remember what happened to the last Welsh female to beat the boys!

A Bank Holiday weekend is always fraught with problems, will we get enough entries, will everyone beat the traffic queues, will our youth and under 12s be saving themselves for the Youth Tour? We needn’t have worried, numbers were a little down and there were a few “no shows” but still a sell out in our final race of the evening won by locals Sam Morris and Rebecca Woodvine respectively. The Youth race saw some great racing from a smaller field with National Champion Issac Vickery suffering a setback early on which gave chasers Iestyn Rowlands and Jude White an added incentive and another great battle in the girls with Lichfields Jessica, local Georgia and Lincoln’s Alex’ on holiday with grandparents and we’ve welcomes every week.

At our final event on the 29th August we are going to try and make our Youth event a little busier by incorporating a Novice race. We’ve noticed a drop off in female competitors in our very busy Junior Senior Veteran race and so RiderHQ entry will shortly be updated to show a Novice event for female and male riders who want to try a shorter less testosterone fuelled entry to Cyclo-Cross. https://www.riderhq.com/events/p/8v83rp7p/f/friday-night-cyclo-x–3
