Lockdown Q & A with Nathan Smith
Brought to you by Bioracer UK
Q: Your last race was and how did it go for you?
Nathan: Roy Thame Cup. Not the best of races for myself (or the team), but plenty of lessons learnt!
Q: With racing cancelled, what’s a typical week training wise for you?
Nathan: Volume has increased slightly. Mainly easy rides and lower intensity efforts (to protect the immune system), but with the odd Strava KOM attempt and Zwift race! I’m still riding outside (probably about 50/50, inside/outside at the moment), but always alone or with my sister.
Q: Enjoying the turbo or avoiding it like the virus?
Nathan: I’m actually quite enjoying the turbo! Although I might not be saying that once the weather improves and we have no option but to ride inside…
Q: If on the turbo, what’s your favourite distraction
Nathan: Usually Zwift coupled with some good tunes.
Q: What’s the hardest thing for you about the Lock Down?
Nathan: The food restrictions some supermarkets have put in place! As well as no café stops – gutted.
Q: Besides cycling, what’s your biggest distraction as lock down continues?
Nathan: For the time being its university work! I still have assignments and online lectures to complete and hand in. But at least the exams have been cancelled!
Q: What’s your bike that gets the most use by you and what is the best thing about it?
Nathan: Has to be my Giant TCR (thanks to the guys at Giant Sheffield). Just a classy bike, fast on the flats and equally so on the steep Yorkshire moors climbs. I also like the paintjob….
Q: What’s the weirdest thing you have seen since this crisis began?
Nathan: Just the amount of people who feel as if they need to stockpile toilet roll (and other stuff) – just don’t understand it if I’m honest.
Q: What clothing from the team kit is most used during this time of the year.
Nathan: Probably the Bioracer bib shorts and Mamnick Lite YOMP socks from the multiple turbo sessions I do weekly. Both are perfect for those sunny outside rides as well as those though turbo sessions.
Q: Finally, where you do you enjoy riding the most in this country?
Nathan: Has to be Yorkshire, nowhere else comes close. FACT.
Thanks to Nathan for that Q & A and good luck to him and his team for 2020, stay safe …
