Q&A with Beth Morrow (Alba Development Road Team) who balances University studying with her training and is looking forward to some big stage races in 2024
Quiz Time: Beth Morrow (Alba Development Road Team)
Q: With the exciting news from the team for 2024, has that made your winter training faster and provided lots of motivation?
Beth: Riding for Alba this year has given me a big boost of motivation. I am proud to be part of the team and feel excited for the season ahead!
Q: How much training in the winter each week are you able to do?
Beth: I am at university so am balancing my training and studying but tend to do around 18 hours of training alongside gym.
Q: What’s been the hardest challenge for you this winter on or off the bike?
Beth: Hardest challenge for me this winter has probably been coping with the terrible British winter and keeping illnesses at bay.
Q: Looking back at the 2023 season, did it go to plan or were there challenges from time to time?
Beth: The 2023 season for me did not go to plan. I was injured from a crash at the end of 2022 season so only managed to get in a couple of races where I was straight in at the deep end with my fitness not where it once was!
Q: What race was the most fun to do in 2023?
Beth: Probably Curlew Cup as it was the first race of the season where I felt a bit more like myself on the bike again.
Q: What race was the toughest on the legs and head?
Beth: Ryedale GP as it was just brutal.
Q: Do you put pressure on yourself for results or just go out there to enjoy it and grab a result if it’s on offer
Beth: I try not to put pressure on myself and just enjoy the racing as I find I get the best results when I am relaxed and not too anxious.
Q: What performance (yours or a fellow rider) are you most proud of from 2023?
Beth: I was proud of the team when we got best team overall of the 2023 national road series.
Q: Have you experienced UCI racing abroad and if so, what are the most exciting things to look forward to in 2024 when the team races abroad?
Beth: I love racing abroad, so I am excited to be back racing in a larger peloton with big teams, its just such a big opportunity to show what you can do and always so much fun!
Q: Is it an ‘adventure’ traveling to races abroad with teammates?
Beth: Yes such an adventure! Travelling and living together, you get to know each other very quickly.
Q: Are their specific races in 2024 you are looking forward to most?
Beth: I am really looking forward to the big stage races, home or abroad they are always very tough.
Q: What goals are important to you for 2024?
Beth: I hope to have a good season with the team and get the best results I can.
