Time for another Q&A with the riders of Fensham Howes MAS Design Junior Team , this time new signing Seth Jackson who already has great results abroad and in Britain – a name to watch!
Q: How long have you been racing Seth?
Seth: I’ve been racing since I was seven years old. My first memories of racing are from the White Rose Youth League, riding for Kirklees Cycling Academy. I competed at venues like York Sports Village, Richard Dunn, and Hammerstones Circuit — definitely iconic places if you’re from Yorkshire!
Q: What team are you racing for in 2025, and what is special about being part of such a strong team?
Seth: In 2025, I’ll be racing for Fensham Howes Mas Design. It’s great to be part of such a strong group of riders — it really pushes you to improve. It’s also motivating to see past riders like Matty Brennan, Finley Pickering, and Max Poole come through the team. Definitely something to aspire to!
Q: How’s the winter training going?
Seth: It’s been a really solid winter, and I’ve seen significant improvements in almost every aspect of my performance. I was lucky enough to get away to Spain for some winter sun, which was great for putting in good hours on the bike—especially with a strong group of friends around me. It was a nice escape from the cold UK winter!
Q: What results are you most proud of from your cycling career so far?
Seth: I’ve had some really memorable results over the past few years. Some highlights include:
– 1st at Otley GP youth race 2022
– 1st x 3 Belgium Kermesses jn 2023
– Over 15 National series podiums in youth racing, including Scarborough, Loughborough and North West Youth Tour.
– 2nd in Pevelle Classic
– 2nd at Romsee-Stavelot-Romsee
– 3rd at stage 2 of the Rundfahrt Tour in Austria
Q: What were the racing highlights in 2024?
Seth: 2024 was definitely a big step up but for a first-year junior season, I was fairly pleased with how it went. Balancing my GCSE’s with
junior racing was tough, but I managed to get through it and came away with some nice results. I finished 2nd at Romsee-Stavelot-Romsee (just behind Jasper Schoofs), 9th at the National Road Championships, 12th at GP Fernand Durel.
Q: What race was the toughest in 2024?
Seth: Definitely Under 19 Liège-Bastogne-Liège. It was a brutal day — 140km of pure Ardennes climbs, with a total of 2,400 meters of elevation!
Q: When do you expect your season to start in 2025?
Seth: I’ll start my season on March 2nd at Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne U19
Q: What events in 2025 are you looking forward to the most?
Seth: I’m really excited for the big junior classics. Flanders, E3, and Gent-Wevelgem are all races that suit me, well—hard climbs, cobbled sections, and usually a reduced-group sprint, which plays to my strengths. I can’t wait to get stuck in!
Q: Finally, who are the key people helping you progress in the sport of cycling?
Seth: I owe my progress to so many key people. My parents have been massive — driving me to races, funding everything, and supporting me in every way possible. I’m also really grateful to Giles and Sonja for everything they do to organize and run the team. If I listed everything, it would be paragraph after paragraph!
My coach, Dean Downing, has also played a huge role in my progress. He’s helped me on and off the bike, making sure I’m in the best possible shape for races. It’s great to have a coach who’s been through it all himself. My agent, Jamie Barl, has also been incredibly supportive — I can’t thank him enough for everything he’s done over the past two years. Finally, I’m really grateful to the sponsors who make this all possible: Mas Design, Scott Sports, J’s Cycles, Bioracer, Dry Mango, Cams, and Red Brick Solutions.
There’s so much that goes on behind the scenes with all these people, so a huge thank you to everyone—I really appreciate all the support!
Good luck to Seth for 2025 with this ground breaking junior team
