Report & Photos Graham Robins
Adrain Lansley (Pedal On) was a winner in the rain and mud ahead of Michael Cotty (Wheelbase/ Cannondale) at the Brooks University complex in Oxfordshire. Setting a strong pace from the start, Adrian soon distanced himself from a hard charging Cotty and he finished nearly two minutes ahead.
Following a night of very heavy rain, the course which was pan flat around a couple of football pitches and a small wooded copse, was waterlogged. The course soon cut up badly during the earlier races as the rain continued but it did ease a little for the start of the senior race.
It was very cold which didn’t help riders and the added ditch with six inches of running water was compounded their misery on each lap. On lap one, Adrain, Michael and Isaac Pucci (West Drayton MTB) eased away from a chasing group of four and soon these three had a thirty second gap. As Adrain pushed on, Isaac slipped back and he soon found he had Sam Allen (Hennebont Cycle) for company.
Finding the deep mud and water difficult several riders suffered and soon large gaps started to appear. One rider finding the conditions to his liking was Chris Minter (Pedal On) as he started to pick of riders around him and he was soon was in the mix with Richard Phillips Scofield (Wheelbase/ Cannondale) and James Cotty (Wheelbase/ Cannondale) and Matthew Webber (Hackney GT).
So as the race entered its final lap Lansley’s lead was now over a minute from Michael Cotty but the interest had turned to the fight for third between Sam and Isaac. The two young riders were swopping places throughout the race with Isaac stronger in the copse and Sam stronger across the wet in field. As they came into sight Sam had a lead of a few seconds which he held to the line.
Provisional Result

2. Michael Cotty Wheelbase Cannondale @ 1min 51secs
3. Sam Allen Hennebont Cycle @ 3mins 38secs
4. Isaac Pucci West Drayton MTB 3mins 49secs

Veterans/Women/Junior
The combined vet/junior/women’s race was held in the worst of the weather and was a comfortable win in the end by David Hobbs (Cotswold Veldrijden) from team mate David Phillips with Robin Wilmott just unable to catch the pair on the line.
The three riders pulled away at the start and soon had a large gap over a group containing Martyn Dymond (Wight Mountain), Nick Walmsley (Cotswold Veldrijden) and Steve Dance (Andover Wheelers). Mid race David Hobbs pulled away from Phillips and Wilmott was now loosing time, at one point he was forty seconds behind second place.
On the final lap Robin started to catch up but he left his charge half a lap short and had to settle for third by two seconds.
