Elite women’s single day road race will take place in Thoresby (North Notts) as part of a cycle fest weekend in May 2014

In a collaborative move between cycle race director Colin Clews and the cycle clothing brand Dare2b, a sportif and major elite women’s single day road race will take place in Thoresby North Notts as part of a cycle fest weekend in May 2014.
The news will be a welcome addition to the 2014 cycling calendar, coming as it does, just a few days after the inaugural women’s Tour of Britain 2014.
The weekend of the 17 and 18 May includes The Thoresby CiCLE Tour Sportif, together with an elite women’s road race, the Thoresby CiCLE Classic, which will form part of The British Cycling Women’s National RR series.
The women’s pro race will retain the intrinsic character of the men’s Rutland-Melton CiCLE Classic which race director Colin Clews has nurtured and made an international success over ten years – with 2014 being the significant anniversary. It is famed for its off-road sections and the Thoresby sister event will follow a similar vein and intensity.
It is hoped in future years that the race will also expand to international levels just as the men’s race has done in the Rutland-Melton Classic. Race Director Colin Clews said, “We have been determined to build our CiCLE classic family. The new women’s road race, based on the Rutland-Melton classic is set to be the most challenging women’s single day road race ever staged in Britain, involving extensive off road sections.â€
He continued: “The event will bring another great boost to the region with the return of the Milk Race in 2013 to the city centre & The Notts CycleLive Grand Prix. I have always wanted to expand the race and with the backing of British Cycling and ardent support from our sponsors, that is about to happen.â€
Colin and Dare2b’s CiCLE race will be a super event for both participants and spectators alike and pushes the profile of women’s cycling on a national level.â€
