Matt Bottrill beats some of Britain’s best in awful conditions to clinch win number seven for 2014 in the South Pennine Rc 25 mile time trial

News – Seventh Win for in South Pennine Rc 25
Saturday afternoon saw torrential rain storms and high gust of winds hit the United Kindgom. Many riders played it safe and stayed at home. In Leicestershire, 140 riders where down to take part in the South Pennine Rc 25 mile Held at Etwal, in Derbyshire. Just 72 managed to brave the condtions, many of those would climb off around the course proving what a hard day it was.
With the riders that started, it was super Veteran Jon Surtees of Team swift who set the standard high. His form so good he was just 10 secs shy of his own personal best 50:44. A great ride considering the conditions. With the showers approaching, Keith Murray Ferryhill Whs CC/Mountain High Cycles, the race across America Team Winner, set off and was soon leading the race with an incredible 50:22.
Last man to start, Matthew Bottrill- www.drag2zero.com, took to the start at 16.10pm, with the hardest section out to the turn at Uttoxeter. Bottrill was soon leading the race and two minutes up on his rivals. On the fastest section on the return leg, riders could not find a gear big enough, and Bottrill was the same, riding home at 33.5mph, taking a further 18 secs out of the competition with a winning time of 48:04 at 31.2mph for win number 7 of the season.
After the riders had finished, Bottrill explained “I would love to say I enjoyed today, but there were time’s I had to back off. With the speed being so high. I should have ridden a swallow front wheel. The gusts were really strong, and I would have gone even faster. But I rode to the event today and did not bring my spare racing wheel. I’m in a big block of training at the moment, so getting a good result with some good numbers means everything is moving in the right direction.”
Next week Bottrill, rides round 5 of the National Time Trial Series. If he wins the National series will be clinced. Check in next week to see how he does.
