Despite clashing with the England v Costa Rica World Cup match on TV, there was Another good turnout of 271 competitors at the NSC last Tuesday night for round ten of Team RL360 Isle of Man’s youth league.

Ten year old Tyler Hannay produced the performance of the night in scoring his first ever win in the born 2003 age group. Not prepared to wait for the usual bunch sprint finish, the Ramsey youngster attacked on the penultimate lap and, cheered on by the crowd, stayed clear of the fast closing chasing pack to record a memorable and well deserved victory.

Percy Hampton edged out Jonty Bregazzi, Corrin Leeming, Joseph Corkish, Matthew Cooil and Juan Kneen in the bunch gallop for second, with Emma Draper, Shellan Leeming and Matthew Black trailing in behind to complete the top ten.

Eddie Dillon got the evening off to a flying start with another dominant solo victory in the born 2009 & later class. Callum Christian, Cameron Hounsell and Jarno Davidson came in separately to fill second, third and fourth places respectively, while Joseph Barker ousted Max Davies in the bunch sprint for fifth. Lula Kinnish took the girls’ award in 17th position.

There was also a commanding win for Emily Rewsin in the novices event, her fourth success of the series. Tristan Speight and Jayjay Plowman were a safe second and third ahead of Abigail Cowell, who beat Luke Pledger in the fight for fourth. Zac Lund headed Elijah Winning and Lucy Cartwright over the line to grab sixth, with newcomer Alex Quilliam holding off Isabella Clarke and Alex McCullagh in the rush for ninth.

In the born 2008 category Alec Sorby dropped Myles Le Geyt and Ollie Eyres on the last lap to bag maximum points for the third week in succession. Deaglan Blake was a good fourth and top girl Fearne Bregazzi pipped Oliver Cooper and George Kinnish to grab fifth. T.J.Teare was a solid eighth and Joel Long won the group dash for ninth.

Leading from start to finish, Cian Howard continued his winning ways in the born 2007 race. Orry Lund outgunned Rio Kelly in the battle for second and the ever impressive Florence Griffin came from behind to snatch fourth from Charlie Scarffe and Jordan Carter. Cory Corkhill and Ed Coole avoided a finish line spill to take seventh and eighth, with Jemma Quayle a close ninth. Olivia Quayle led Ellana Skillan home to round off the top ten.

Cian Jackson had to fight off a strong challenge from Ivan Sorby in order to retain his 100% record in the born 2006 class. Drystan Sewell overcame Owen Collins in the sprint for third and Zachary Dowson maintained station throughout the race for a safe fifth. Rebecca Cooil beat Nicola Quaye and Samuel Devereau in the battle for the final spot on the top six leader board, while Connor Moughtin broke away from Tom Darnill, Jenson Artus and Imogen Cooper to claim ninth.

Niall Colquitt went from the gun in the born 2005 three lapper and time trialled to victory. Nine riders contested the sprint for second with Harry Kneen getting the verdict ahead of Oliver Corkish, Alexander Deering, Tyler Annis and Mairi Harrison. Relative newcomer Luke Robinson was a good seventh, Chloe Dillon eighth, Harry Boyle ninth and Luca Moretta tenth.

Riding a bog-standard mountain bike complete with knobbly tyres, Zac Walker reigned supreme in the born 2004 class, powering away from the field to take the win with a commanding lead. James Devereau had the upper hand on Dillon Dowson and Nathan Slack in the tussle for second, with Kiera Prentice pipping Megan Boardman for the girls’ prize in fifth spot.

Notching up his second win of the night, Zac Walker made an early attack in the under 10 racing bikes and stayed clear to the finish . Niall Colquitt escaped from the main bunch to secure the runners-up spot and Ralf Holden got the better of Dillon Dowson in the gallop for third. Cian Jackson was the first category E rider (under 8) in sixth spot and Kiera Prentice the best girl in seventh place.

A leading group of 13 riders contested the gallop at the end of the under 12 droppies, but it was Charlie Gibson who came to the fore to grab a comfortable win. Aaron Lund was second followed by Jonty Bregazzi, James Harrison, Matthew Cooil and Jake Wilson.

In the under 16’s Owen Dudley came out on top in a ferocious sprint finish with breakaway companions Matthew Draper, Conor Davies and William Draper. A chasing quartet consisting of Nathan Hinks, Thomas Bostock, Adam Kelly and Elizabeth Holden came home in that order, with Tara Ferguson and Tosh Teare surging clear of a third group to secure ninth and tenth.
