The Revolution Series, the UK’s premier elite track cycling series, have announced the names of the first star riders who shall be competing in Glasgow during Round 4 of the competition.
Commonwealth Road Race Champion Lizzie Armitstead and Olympic Champion Dame Sarah Storey will join a host of world class riders on the track at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow on 31st January. It will be the first major cycling event in the venue following the Commonwealth Games earlier this year and Scottish fans will also witness two home grown teams racing as part of the Revolution Series Elite Championship; Team Scotland and Rigmar Racers.
Armitstead returns to the city following her victory on the road at the Commonwealth Games, but this time she will take to the track and is looking forward to the challenge: “I’m excited to be returning to Glasgow after the amazing memories this summer at the Commonwealth Games. This time it will be on the track and I’m looking forward to racing at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome. I was there last season commentating on the TV so it will be good to be part of the action this time round.â€
Armitstead will face tough competition from rival Dame Sarah Storey, who recently became National Points Race Champion beating Laura Trott, Elinor Barker and Katie Archibald by more than 20 points at the National Track Championships in September.
“Sarah is an extremely strong and versatile athlete†commented James Pope from event organisers Face Partnership. “She has won World and Paralympic Gold across two sports and twelve different events, as both a Paralympic and an able-bodies athlete so we are delighted to welcome her to the Glasgow round of the Revolution Series.â€
Storey and Armitstead join National Sprint Champion Callum Skinner, racing for Scottish Team Rigmar, in the Glasgow line up with more star riders to be announced in coming weeks. The twelfth season of the Revolution Series kicked off with Round 1 at the Lee Valley VeloPark last weekend (24/25 October), where Laura Trott and Marianne Vos battled it out in the UCI Women’s Omnium.
The Revolution Series will be broadcast on Channel 4 this season and TV highlights of Round 1 are available to view online on 4OD.
Tickets are available for Round 4 in Glasgow on www.cyclingrevolution.com or by calling See Tickets on 0844 412 4650.
