VeloUK puts the Question & Answer to Angela Hibbs of the Fusion – Fierlan women’s racing team

Feature – Angela Hibbs Q&A
1. When will you start your road season and what will be the first race?
Angela: I’ll probably start doing some of the critical races locally in the North East towards the end of February to get some race fitness and get back into the number pinning.
2. What races will be your targets for 2016 and why?
Angela: The national CTT individual time trials are a target as are the national women’s series road races. I’m trying to balance time trials and road races which can be tricky but with some organising and planning should be manageable.
3. How will you spend the time on the bike between now and your first race in training?
Angela: Bit of everything, some turbo work, some miles on the road, some efforts on the road, no really long miles just yet though.
4. What was your favourite Xmas present?
Angela: That’s easy…an Everton FC home shirt…am a huge Everton fan!
5. When it rains, which its doing a lot right now, is it turbo time or wrap up and get wet?
Angela: Well I live in the north east of England so if I never went out when it was wet I’d never be out! But I always say it can be heavy rain and wind for a race and you’re not going to turn up and then not race because it’s raining!
It’s important to be skilled and used to riding in those conditions otherwise you’re in for a big shock come race day! Equally, if doing threshold or high end efforts for a duration, the turbo can be more beneficial and safer if there are gale force winds or floods out there! So it’s a sensible head and then decide.
6. If you could do any race in the world including the best ones in the world etc, what would it be and why?
Angela: The women’s World Tour Series, be great to travel the world while racing the bike!
7. What piece of food can you not do without where ever you are on the road during the season!
Angela: Definitely peanut butter!! (Has to be crunchy mind!)
8. What is your favourite music track when warming up for a race or on the turbo?
Angela: Anything with a good beat and is upbeat
9. If given the option, would you prefer normal brakes or disc brakes on your road bike?
Angela: Not having ridden or tried disc brakes I’d have to go for normal brakes, but never say never… I’d be up for trying them.
10. What’s the spec of your race bike for 2016 and your favourite bits on it?
Angela: New racing bike time for me next season so watch this space! Favourite bits will probably be all of it! I brought some lovely carbon wheels for last year so they will definitely be incorporated into the new steed so they will be up there on the favourite parts!
