Feature question and answer from Team Bottrill’s Charlie Taylor who will probably start his season in the Matlock CC 25…

Feature Q & A: Charlie Taylor
1. What will be your first time trial for 2016 and why that one to kick off the season?
Charlie: Probably the Matlock CC 25 in March. It’s an early season classic on a great sporting course.
2. What time trials will be your targets for 2016 and why?
Charlie: Most of the nationals to help support the team going for medals.
3. What phase of the training schedule are you – base miles or intervals?
Charlie: With Matt Bottrill’s coaching there’s always a mixture of training intensities throughout the year, so there’s no specific base miles or intervals phase. Variety keeps it far more interesting!
4. Do you train on a road bike or TT bike?
Charlie: I’m a traditionalist so a full winter set up for this time if year. As the weather improves, I’ll start to do specific sessions on the TT bike.
5. What is your favourite distance and why?
Charlie: I wouldn’t say it’s my favourite distance, but I go better over the longer distances of 50 miles and over.
6. What is your favourite course in the country and why?
Charlie: Anything in the peak District or out in the countryside as I love the scenery.
7. You’re doing a ’10’ – do you take a bidon on the bike and if so, what’s your drink of choice when racing?
Charlie: I wouldn’t bother with a bottle for a 10 as it’s only 20 minutes of pain. However when I do, I tend to use as energy drink such as Zipvit .
8. What is your weapon (bike) of choice for 2016? (spec of machine please)
Charlie: As I’m riding for Team Bottrill this season, I’ll be riding a Giant Trinity Advanced pro with Sram Red groupset, Drag2Zero disc wheel and Enve 7.8 front wheel. Probably the fastest set up out there.
9. What is the key to going fast for you?
Charlie: The key to going faster is simple. Push the pedals harder!
10. Finally, if you could change one thing about the way time trials are organised, what it would be (ie, closed roads, etc)
Charlie: I’d love to say closed roads but I’m a realist and that’s never going to happen across the board; so probably more country lane courses away from traffic.
