Report: GS Metro Road Race

Will Haynes of Durham uni CC wins the GS Metro Road Race on August 7 at, Middleton, Northumberland.
Report and results:
A wet day in the saddle for the 57 riders taking to the line to contest 65 undulating miles around rural Northumberland. On the first of 8 laps round the main circuit the decisive move of the day formed and saw Will Haynes, Colin Ash and Chris Mark escape the field. It was to be the last the main field saw of these three men. As the race wore on a chase group comprising of Tommy Bustard (awarded most combatative rider), Andrew Beattie and Thomas Timothy formed. This group was reduced to just Beattie and Bustard when Timothy spectacularly overcooked the Scots Gap corner sliding (thankfully unninjured) across the whole width of the wet road.
As the race moved off the circuit and onto the finishing climb, Haynes moved decisively clear of his break away companions to take a fine victory. Ash and Mark completed the podium:
