Norwich Circuit Races – Round 1

Round 1 of Circuit Series races a success in Norwich as Youth riders get plenty of racing on the day

After a pilot series in 2010, the organisers moved the location to the south side of Norwich which made it more accessible and changed the format for the Youth and Go Race events – running them as a simple omnium to give all the riders at least three short events on the day. This means hard working parents driving a long away to give their kids a race get to see them in more than one short event.

On the strength of round ,1 it seems to have worked the organisers say. Twenty youth riders aged from 7 – 16 turned up and all had the opportunity to race four times, a one lap Time Trial, Handicap, Keirin and a Scratch races. The riders were broken down into two or three groups depending on ability to give them a real feel of close racing.

Eighteen riders signed on for the ‘Go Race’ and were treated to a Scratch race, Keirin and a Devil. Again the field was divided into two groups based on ability, with the exception of the final scratch race – won by youth A rider Cameron Toms (Iceni Velo).

The Regional B Crit at the end of the day wasn’t as well attended with only seven riders signing on but it did clash with two other events in the region. The race was a win for Peter Hargreaves (VC Norwich) and organisers are hopeful that more will want to ride in the rounds to come in the series.

Next round is on Sunday 28th August and the race times for round 2 only are:

Race 1 : Bite Size racing (youth) – 11.00am
Race 2 : Go Race Omnium – 1.00pm
Race 3 : Regional B – 3.00pm.
