Races: August 11 – The fifth and penultimate races of the Stainton Series were contested by the A & C groups in wet and blustery conditions which meant for a smaller turnout in both races and a reduced race distance. The Group C race was full of action with a breakaway of 6 riders consisting of Tim Rowson & Lee Allen (RVO Racing), Dan Storey (Sheffrec CC), Steve Ellis (Out Of The Saddle CC/Bikeboxalan), Jordon Skinner (Dinnington RC) & Chris Pritchard (Endura) establishing a 30 second lead with 3 laps remaining.
The bunch tried hard to bring the leaders back with the gap down to 25 seconds with 2 laps to go, however, by the bell the gap had increased to 40 seconds with the bunch now having little chance. At the finish, Ellis broke away from his companions to win on his own, 5 seconds ahead of Rowson with team-mate Allen taking 3rd and Storey 4th. Marc Etches (Sheffrec CC) won the bunch sprint for 7th over a minute behind. Rowson’s 2nd place means that he now has a 10 point lead over Storey in the Group C Overall Standing with just one race to go.
The Group A race was less eventful with no breakaways taking place. The inevitable bunch sprint was easily won by Daniel Moore (Sheffield Tri Club) with Marc Mclean (Dinnington RC) in 2nd place & Carl Sawyer (Kiveton Park CC) in 3rd. Paul Turner-Johnson (Sheffrec CC) did not start but was already the Group A Overall Winner, but the result meant that both Moore & McLean have tied for 2nd place.
