The Santini GoreTex rain jacket, say Prendas Ciclismo, has been developed whilst working with a number of professional riders for over 45 years. All seams are taped and the GORE-TEX fabric is a brand-leader for good reason. The jacket is cut short at the front, to prevent excess fabric when you are on in a riding position, and has generous drop tail to provide protection against spray from your back wheel.
The double flap on the front with zipper and buttons keeps the wind and rain out also allowing you to wear the jacket unzipped, but buttoned up, when extra ventilation is required. GORE-TEX Shells are ideal according to Prendas for when a high level of breathability, waterproof protection are important.
Despite many manufacturers claims about the next “wonder fabric” it is very hard to beat GORE-TEX for their weather protection says Prendas. They are the market leader for a very good reason, but this performance does come at a price.
But, consider the length of service that you will get from a cycling-specific waterproof jacket such as this, it can be considered a worthy investment. NOTE: These jackets are actually pretty generous for an Italian garment, more like a UK/USA brand in fact. So if you are used to buying Santini garments and you know your size, you need to order a jacket one size smaller than your normal Santini jersey size.
