Youth Race

Jake Marley and Sam Titmarsh had a good scrap in the snow with both boys swapping the lead and managing to keep things together as they drifted away from the main field giving an exciting race right down to the last section of tight corners where both collided before the finish. Remounting their bikes like synchronised swimmers, the battle for the win was still on to the line where Jake Marley won by a bike length.

Senior Race

The Senior race was more of a steady start. Darren Barclay rode off the front with Matthew Webb, Ben Lewis, Paul Sheers, and Jack Finch in hot pursuit.  When the riders reappeared back into the stadium, first into view was Matthew Webb with a clear lead over Darren Barclay, ” I had a miss adventure round the back of the course” said Darren. The same had happened to Jack Finch and he had dropped to ninth place. Paul Sheers kept things steady but couldn’t close on Webb, finishing second. Ben Lewis got around Darren for third while Jack finch clawed his way back to 5th having Darren in his sights.

“I really enjoyed that, have to laugh though, I was trying to be as smooth as you can in conditions like this but once the bike goes, it goes” said Darren Barclay. “So many people were falling in different parts of the course. For me it was a case of just having fun”. Jack Finch meanwhile said “I was I little annoyed when I came down and loosing a couple of places but once I calmed down.,I got back into may rhythm where I started making my way back.”

Phil Murrell Finsbury Park CC, “I had a good start considering the conditions. It wasn’t too bad to begin with once the bunch thinned out a bit, it was easier to maintain a stead pace. As the snow started to churn into the mud it was becoming a slog towards the end, I did come off a couple of times, but who didn’t?”
