Matthew Bottrill (www.drag2zero.com) made it a weekend double victory by winning the Leicestershire RC hilly on Monday. Held at Syston (Leicetershire, near Giant UK’s headquarters) riders raced a 26.1 mile course which was shorter than planned after the course was shortened by two miles due to traffic lights near the finish area.

Despite that, all the major climbs of Billedon Coplow, Tilton-on the-hill, Somerby, Burrough-on the hill and the final climb of Twyford had to be completed.

Leaving the starting area at 9.50 on his Giant Trinity SL, Bottrill opted for Enve’s 6.7 front wheel and Enve 8.9 rear wheel and was soon powering down the home straight in to what could only be called torrential rain! Soon up to speed, and catching riders that had been brave enough to start, Bottrill was flying through the lanes pushing the bike and wheels to the limit

“This is the second time I’ve opted to use the the 6.7 front and 8.9 rear smart Enve wheel’s due to the very high cross winds and they handle so well, you hardly feel any inbalance when you get the high gust of winds” Matt explained. The Giant Trininty SL frame also handles great in these high winds, making it the perfect combination for these hilly races.”

“Cycling is getting so technical, it’s like formula 1 racing, so if you want the best result, you have to select the right combination of equipment!” Matt explains.

Bottrill stopped the clock in a rapid 1.01.34 to beat former National hill climb champion Matthew Clinton who had also flown round the course in a solid 1.03.40.

“I’m quite happy with this weekend results” Matt says. “I’ve put some solid training in between races and even rode out to the race and home today to give me a total of 70 miles. A big part of my recovery is using the right nutrition supplied my Zip-Vit but sports massage has also helped me out big time this year. I work along Jason Lavine at I-massage and he know’s how to get the best out of athletes he works with”

Next weekend, Bottrill and the rest of Drag2zero race team, will be competing in Wales, with the aim of taking the National competition team record for 25 miles currently held by Bottrill, Scott Povey and Richard Bradley. Check in next week to find out how the race goes.
