Victory for James Allen in the 3/4 race at North Newbald in East Yorkshire on Sunday

The event was run on the old established Newbald circuit of 6 laps with a wearing down climb at the end of each lap. The weather conditions for the race saw the riders start in sunshine but then have to endure a downpour before the race ended in drizzling rain.
On the first lap, Gareth Owen (Team Swift) launched the attack and was joined at the start of the second lap by Steve Coates (We Love Mountains). These two stayed away until the last lap when they were caught on the climb by a group of seven chasing riders after they had established a lead of 1 minute 16 seconds at one point.
The two leaders were joined by Tim Allen (Sheffrec), Nick Coupland, James Wolff and up and coming juniors Paul Rymer and Jacob Trotter as well as experienced Dan Kenna (Squadra RT) and Karl Downes (Active RT), Pete Fielding Smith and Andrew Robinson. Jim Allen launched his attack in the final four miles and showed his strength to win convincingly with Nick Coupland and Paul Rymer coming up behind.
60 riders started the event and due to 15 punctures with the weather it soon whittled the field down to end up with 25 finishers.
