Netapp-Endura rider Bartosz Huzarski clawed his way onto the podium at the VueltaÂ

Endura sponsored rider Bartosz Huzarski was able to finish in third place on the 16th stage of the Vuelta a Espana. He showed his fighting spirit on the demanding Sallent de Gállego mountain finish, giving way only to Warren Barguil (Argos-Shimano) and Rigoberto Urán (Sky).

Huzarski had been energetic the whole day of the 147-kilometre-long stage in the Pyrenees having made it into the decisive breakaway group. Leopold Koenig reached the finish with the favourites and retained his 8th place on the general classification.
“Bartosz was close to victory today” Ralph Denk, Team Manager of Team NetApp-Endura commented. “It was a grandiose performance and without a doubt one of the strongest races I have seen him in. It was quite difficult to get into the right group today. Every team wanted to be at the front, so that took a long time before one group was able to establish a lead. Bartosz fought the whole day and stayed out in front despite every attack.”
“He rode at an extremely high speed during the last three kilometres of the final ascent and was able to be part of the leaders just before the finish. We were almost able to score the biggest coupe of allâ€.
While the stages profile was not considered the hardest in the tour, the riders were nonetheless still feeling the effects of the last two hard stages. Under significantly better weather conditions, the stage was decided by a 15-kilometre-long ascent of the first category on rough asphalt. After the 60th kilometre of the race Bartosz Huzarski was part of a breakaway group together with eight other riders.
After successful attacks from out of the peloton, a group of 17 riders finally stabilised. Warren Barguil proved to be the strongest rider among them and attacked 10 kilometres before the finish line. He climbed the ascent alone, and was caught up with by Rigoberto Urán just before the finish, but still won the stage in a photo finish.
