Report – TTT win for Bottrill & Barnett
Saturday afternoon was a gorgeous day for riding a bike as the winter chill gave way to the spring breeze. The conditions for the BDCA two up time trial over 30 kilometres were windy with high gusts but with the warm air, it was a great day for racing.
The course was a loop starting in the village of Griffydam, Tonge, Breedon, Lount and finally finishing in the village of Belton with riders racing two laps of the undulating circuit with the main climb on Vinegar hill creating the most damage for all the riders taking part. An ideal spectating area for the eagerly awaiting crowd. And #TeamBottrill would be out in force!
The race got underway at 2pm and it was the pairing of James Perkins & Sean Vincent Zenith CC, that would set the standard of 44:06 which would stand the test of time for the next hour. The closest any riders would get would be the pairing of Ian Guilor & Shaun Eden Mapperly CC in a time of 45:08
Last pairing to start would be Matthew Bottrill & Daniel Barnett of drag2zero.com. Starting at 2:45pm, the pairing where riding Giant Trinty bike’s, and were soon hitting speeds of 35-40mph in the tailwind sections and completed the opening lap in 19:30.
They were soon opening a gap over the field, and the whole of team Bottrill were going crazy over the climb of Vineger hill. On the second lap, there was no drop in pace and the pair stopped the clock in 41:25, a clear winning margin.
Daniel Barnett said afterwards “that was an epic epic day, I loved it and its a great way to start the season.” Matt Bottrill also really enjoyed the day saying “It was great having so many people out on the course cheering us on. It was also great to ride with Dan. I’ve coached him for the last two years and it’s great seeing where he started and where he his now.”
