Report – Scottish TT Championships

On Sunday, 26th April 2015, over 90 of Scotland’s best Time Triallists made the journey to Eddleston, just outside Peebles in the Scottish Borders, to compete in the Scottish Cycling National Olympic Time Trial Championships.

The riders set off one by one to battle against the clock on a hilly 25 mile course, following a scenic loop over the Meldons hills. 2014 defending Champions, Lynsey Curran (Dooleys-Cycles.co.uk) from Glasgow and Chris Smarts (Paisley Velo Race Team) from Ayrshire, where all set to defend their titles.

As each of the women made their way towards the top of the course it became obvious that the rider to watch was Edinburgh’s Louise Borthwick (Project 51), that was until the defending champion Lynsey Curran (Dooleys-Cycles) came into view. Curran finish the event in a time of 1:07:01 to put Borthwick into second spot at 1:10:14 and retain her title and claiming the first Scottish Cycling National Champion Medal of 2015. Mireille Captieux of the host club Edinburgh RC, took third place with a time of 1:12:54.

In the men’s race there were some excellent performances with eight sub-hour riders for the distance. The Sandy Wallace Cycles duo of Alan Thomson and Silas Goldsworthy claimed 2nd and 3rd with times of 57:40 and defending champion Chris Smart of Paisley Velo RT crossed the line with 17 seconds in hand to take the title for the second year in a row.
