News – Welsh Cycling Criterium Championships
Welsh Cycling is proud to announce that Porthcawl will host the 2015 Welsh Criterium Championships.
The Prostate Cymru Welsh Criterium Championships will be held on Sunday 20 September, in the coastal resort of Porthcawl promoted by local cycling clubs Port Talbot Wheelers and Tap It Out Cycling Club.
The 1km circuit will begin on the promenade, taking riders through the town centre with a few twists and turns on the way providing spectacular racing for competitors and spectators.
Welsh Cycling Chief Executive Officer, Anne Adams-King said: “The Welsh Cycling Criterium Championships is always an exciting event on the calendar; the town centre circuit will provide many great viewing points for fans, as well as some challenging racing for competitors.
With the race taking place on the seafront of Porthcawl there will be a great atmosphere on the day, and I look forward to seeing many of our members in Wales competing for the championship titles that are on offer.â€
Event organiser, David Lloyd said: “I remember watching cycle racing on the promenade when I was younger, so it is a great feeling to be able to bring such a great event to Porthcawl with the support of both Bridgend County Borough Council and Porthcawl Town Council and charity Prostate Cymru.
The event provides a great opportunity for both youngsters and elite cyclists to compete on a closed road circuit in the town centre, and for members of the local community to come along and enjoy the whole event in September.â€
With over 100 clubs and 4000 members in Wales, the Prostate Cymru Welsh Criterium Championships offer a great opportunity for the cycling community to come together and support the event.
Full details of the course will be confirmed in the next few weeks, with entry available online.
To be eligible to win the Welsh Championship titles, riders must enter online by Sunday 8 September 2015 and fulfil the Wales eligibility criteria. Entries will be available on the day, but riders will not be able to compete for the Welsh Championship title.
