Team News – One Pro Kiwi Signings
Dion Smith, James Oram and Hayden McCormick are the latest signings for ONE Pro Cycling as the team embark on their step up to Pro-Continental ranks in 2016. The three new riders make up the New Zealand U23 Squad for tomorrow’s World Championship Road Race in Richmond, USA.
Twenty-Two year old Dion Smith is being touted for big things after a 5th place at the Tour of Alberta and numerous top tens at the recent USA Pro Challenge with the Hincapie Team.
“When I was offered the chance to join ONE Pro Cycling, the decision was an easy one. The team are already pursuing the direction I want to go and they have great opportunities for me to develop and grow as a rider. The British are renowned for being well drilled and professional in everything they do and I’m looking forward to the step into the UK scene.’’
Dion will be joined by James Oram, who will make the move from the American team, Axeon Cycling. An impressive performance in the World U23 Time Trial on Tuesday placed the talented Kiwi in 6th place promising a bright future.
James Oram said; “I’m really excited to be joining ONE Pro Cycling to continue my development at a more senior level. The attitude and atmosphere I can feel is great for the team already. They are swaying from the norm but in the best way possible. I’ll be in the best races to progress and even get the chance to race for the win myselfâ€.
Hayden McCormick is the youngest of the trio at only twenty-one and moves from the Lotto-Soudal U23 Team to join ONE Pro Cycling.
‘’Having followed the success of ONE Pro Cycling since they launched last year, I’m looking forward to riding for such a forward thinking team. It’s not often you’re given the opportunity to develop within a new team as an individual and also have two of your closest team mates make that transition with you†said Hayden McCormick.
ONE Pro Cycling’s Sports Director, Matt Winston said; “Our latest three signings are really exciting. Despite still being in the U23 category all three riders have experienced racing at a high level and will provide us with a fresh new team dynamic in 2016 and beyond. It’s important for us to be able to develop and nurture young talent and I’m looking forward to seeing them progress as a part of ONE Pro Cyclingâ€.
Live coverage of the Under-23 men’s road race is on British Eurosport 2 tomorrow at 17.45 (UK time).
