Feature – Adam Hartley Q & A
1. When will you start your road season and what will be the first race?
Adam: My road season will start in late February with a Spanish National Road Race “Circuito del Guadianaâ€.
2. What races will be your targets for 2016 and why?
Adam: My team is targeting the British National Series and Championship but in addition to these races, I want achieve some top class rides (podiums) on the international stage in Holland, Belgium, France, Spain and the USA. The Junior Tour of Wales is also a major target in 2016 as it will be for many riders in the junior peloton!
3. How will you spend the time on the bike between now and your first race in training?
Adam: I am currently doing longer steady rides with quite a lot of sweet spot efforts included. I’ve just started riding the Manchester Regional Track League Premier Division (Tuesdays) which is good for pedalling. As the season approaches, my volume will reduce a little and the intensity will go up.
4. What was your favourite Xmas present?
Adam: I received a nice BOSE speaker which I link to my phone to deafen the rest of my family and annoy my younger BRO.
5. When it rains, which its doing a lot right now, is it turbo time or wrap up and get wet?
Adam: I usually always opt for the outdoors, unless there is frost on the ground or if I am recovering from a cold. I keep warm by utilising the many pieces of clothing I am supplied with from Champion System UK, not least my Apex Weather Guard Jersey and Thermo-shield PRO winter jacket. Oh and my new Velo Champion Deep Winter Waterproof Cycling Gloves are super for cold and wet days.
6. If you could do any race in the world including the best ones in the world etc, what would it be and why?
Adam: I think it would have to be a Grand Tour, possibly the Tour of Spain initially.
7. What piece of food can you not do without where ever you are on the road during the season!
Adam: Jumbo Oats and Goats Milk, not necessarily together – my staple diet!
8. What is your favourite music track when warming up for a race or on the turbo?
Adam: I don’t tend to warm up to music, I am usually thinking about the event and the course ahead.
9. If given the option, would you prefer normal brakes or disc brakes on your road bike?
Adam: I would stick with the rims brakes for now. Discs are great for CX for many reasons but I’ve never had a problem with rim brakes on the road. Don’t you think a hot sharp rotor is scary for the road (yep)?
10. What’s the spec of your race bike for 2016 and your favourite bits on it?
Adam: Our race bike for 2016 is going to be one of the most Aero bikes in the junior peloton, using a VeloChampion Shark Road Frameset, 105 11 speed group-set and Pro-lite Deep Carbon Tubular Wheels – and of course it will be fitted with a Stages power crank!
