Rider Chat: Mitchell Webber Q & A
1. When will you start your road season and what will be the first race?
Mitchell: I intend to start my road season at the start of February with the Perfs Pedal RR down near Portsmouth. I’ve raced it the past few years and it’s a good race to blow the cob webs out!
2. What races will be your targets for 2016 and why?
Mitchell: I’m looking forward to the National A prems, especially the Wilton GP as its close to where I live and I occasionally train around there. Also looking forward to the chance of racing the British UCI races.
3. How will you spend the time on the bike between now and your first race in training?
Mitchell: Between now and my first race I will be starting to concentrate a bit more on intensity. Trying to get the speed back into my legs with one or two longer rides thrown in there. I’m sure Tim Elveson has some evil Turbo sessions lined up for me…
4. What was your favourite Xmas present?
Mitchell: I was treated to a new Garmin 1000. It is more like an iPad than a cycle computer but I like it.
5. When it rains, which its doing a lot right now, is it turbo time or wrap up and get wet?
Mitchell: I prefer to ride in the rain. It’s easier said than done but it prepares you well for the wet races. My biggest tip for staying dry has to be mudguards!
6. If the team said you could do any race in the world this season, what would it be and why?
Mitchell: Has to be the Tour de France. It’s the biggest race in the world and would be cool to ride on the most iconic roads in cycling.
7. What piece of food can you not do without where ever you are travelling to in the world?
Mitchell: Favourite snack is Soreen, especially the banana flavour.
8. What is your favourite music track when warming up for a race or on the turbo doing devilish intervals?
Mitchell: Don’t really have a favourite track but mainly I listening to a bit of Club and Dance music when warming up. Tim likes to play a bit of old school Rap which gets the team pumped for the races!
9. Which of your bikes is your favourite (Road or TT) and what’s the spec of it and which bit of it is your favourite?
Mitchell: Normal brakes. Don’t think there’s a need for disc brakes when racing. But that’s just my opinion!
10. What’s the spec of your race bike for 2016?
Mitchell: Next year we’ll be riding Specialized Tarmacs again with Edco wheels, Continental tyres and Shimano groupset. I loved the combination last year and look forward to getting back on it!
