2016 Feature Q&A’s – Adam Capes
Adam in the Perfs on the weekend!
1. When will you start your road season and what will be the first race?
Adam: First race was the Perfs for me which is always a tough one but gets your head in the game for the season after a long winter.
2. What races will be your targets for 2016 and why?
Adam: No stand out target races really, just looking to help the team get consistent results in Nat B’s.
3. How will you spend the time on the bike between now and your first race in training? Long miles or cutting back to do top end efforts?
Adam: After a winter of long steady rides now is the time to start bringing the gap to race fitness. Starting to cut back on volume a bit and adding more sweetspot and higher intensity efforts. It feels good to start pushing on and seeing what I can do compared to last year.
4. What was your favourite Xmas present?
Adam: My 29er mtb that I bought for myself!
5. When it rains, which its doing a lot right now, is it turbo time or wrap up and get wet? (if the latter, what’s your favourite tip to stay dry in the rain)
Adam: If I have a long road ride planned then not a lot can stop me heading out. I don’t mind the rain as long as I get the wardrobe selection right. Northwave boots with Velotoze is an impenetrable combination!
6. If you could do any race in the world including the best ones in the world etc, what would it be and why?
Adam: It would have to be Paris Roubaix because of the history, tradition and drama. It’s a right proper scrap that race, love it!
7. What piece of food can you not do without where ever you are on the road during the season!
Adam: Porridge! I could easily eat it for every meal of the day, especially with peanut butter and honey, winner. Easy to take on the road with those instant pots.
8. What is your favourite music track when warming up for a race or on the turbo?
Adam: MJ Beat It. Although it does just make me want to get off the bike and bust out some moves!
9. If given the option, would you prefer normal brakes or disc brakes on your road bike?
Adam: For racing I’ve been quite happy with normal brakes so see no reason to change to be honest. I’d like discs on my commuter though as those pedestrians do love stepping out into the road at the last minute!
10. What’s the spec of your race bike for 2016 and your favourite bits on it? (include a pic or two if you have them!)
Adam: We’re on Specialized Tarmac’s next year kindly being supplied by Banjo Cycles. Kitting it out with Ultegra, Q-rings, Vector pedals, Roval wheels and Conti tyres. Favourite bit by far is the team designed stem cap made by Kapz, lovely little touch!
