Q & A – Tim Jones
1. When will you start your road season and what will be the first race?
Tim: I will be starting my racing season at a Velo29 crit at Croft but this is just a warm up really for the Kuurne – Brussels – Kuurne juniors the weekend after where the season will start for real.
2. What races will be your targets for 2016 and why?
Tim: My main objectives will be the Junior National Series, getting a top 10 or two would be great. Also racing abroad in UCI races will be fantastic so clearly I’m wanting to perform well there too.
3. How will you spend the time on the bike between now and your first race in training?
Tim: I’ll be working in some hard efforts on the road and indoors between now and racing. But I enjoy long rides so I won’t completely cut them out, just throw some extra stuff in on top.
4. What was your favourite Xmas present?
Tim: My favourite Christmas present was probably the new Star Wars Battlefront PC game.
5. When it rains, which its doing a lot right now, is it turbo time or wrap up and get wet?
Tim: I usually prefer going out. If you’re going to get wet sometimes you’ve just got to deeal with it. You’re not going to be wet for more than a few hours. If you’re cold, then ride harder or layer up more. But I do like sitting on Zwift when it’s really horrid, it depends what takes my fancy.
6. If you could do any race in the world including the best ones in the world etc, what would it be and why?
Tim: I’d love to race Strade Bianche, I love the dirt roads, it’s different to any other event out there!
7. What piece of food can you not do without where ever you are on the road during the season!
Tim: Greg Van Avermaet is my favourite pro rider hands down. He’s got such an awesome style and he loves to put everyone through a world of pain.
8. What is your favourite music track when warming up for a race or on the turbo?
Tim: I don’t usually listen to music before the race. I like to think about the race and soak up the atmosphere.
9. If given the option, would you prefer normal brakes or disc brakes on your road bike?
Tim: Rim brakes. They work fine and if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
10. What’s the spec of your race bike for 2016 and your favourite bits on it?
Tim: We’re racing Kuota Kryon’s this year. I’ve already got mine and I am just waiting for the weather to improve before I can take it out but I’m really looking forward to it.
