Team News – Essex Team QSW-Etixx
QSW-Etixx is a small, but professional setup based in Essex. The team, originally started in February 2015, is a cyclo-cross focused team that aims to bring local riders to the forefront of the UK cyclocross scene, headed by former Junior National Trophy winner Sean Dunlea.
Currently announced on the roster are Sean Dunlea, 19, and Norfolk based rider Bradley Nelson, 21. Both are excited to be joined in the summer by two new talented arrivals, one of whom has just finished a strong winter period of racing the World Cup series for his country’s National Team.
Dunlea aims to make a strong return to bike racing this year after effectively having a season out due to injury and illness. Sean said: “Since May last year, I’ve broken 2 bones and torn a ligament. I was diagnosed with Chronic Tonsillitis mid season and the doctors were reluctant to do much about it, so I spent most of the year sidelinedâ€.
Sean aims to put in some strong performances in Belgian Kermesses over the summer, before making a bid to get selection for the GB team once again for the World Cup series and World Championships. Bradley Nelson also aims to put in strong performances in Belgium. A relative newcomer to the sport, Bradley only took up the sport competitively in Autumn 2014.
“The team will give me the opportunity and motivation to take myself beyond the levels I have achieved in my short career so far. I am incredibly excited to have the opportunity to ride within a set up that goes beyond what you often see from your typical cycling club.“
With a strong focus on performance, the young team will use this summer to gain experience on road, and off road, using top level road races as a springboard into a successful first cyclocross season. The riders are starting their road seasons at various stages but will band together for various training camps through the year, with the help of Mark Walker Coaching, as well as road races in the UK and Belgium.
Sean Dunlea, who created the team alongside title sponsor QSW’s John Brame, said about the project: “It’s exciting. With the project we’re looking to basically have a team of riders who can bounce off each other and help each other get better. There’s no egos here, just a group of guys who love to pedal.â€
The team is also co-sponsored by Colnago and BBB via Windwave. “We’re exceptionally lucky to have the full support of the guys at Windwave†said Dunlea, “I’ve been supported by both brands in the past and at the start of the project I knew immediately that they were people who would share our visionâ€. The team looks forward to announcing the two final signings as the year progresses.
The team would like to thank QSW Sports, Etixx UK, Windwave, Thule, and Sportsbalm for their faith and continued support.
