End of season racing for those chasing the extra points needed some times brings out large fields and some races small entries, this race was the latter. With just sixteen riders lining up for the one hour and 3lap race even the sun decided to make an appearance at the waterside venue close to Portsmouth continental ferry port.

It did not take long into the race before we had a strong breakaway with five riders going clear after just ten minutes of very fast racing. It only took the five a further five minutes for them to catch the back of the bunch and then dropping back in. The five were eventual winner Mike Smith (Cycleworks.co.uk), Simon Brooks (VC St Raphael), Tim Elverson (Pedal Heaven), Oscar Hutchings (Primera Team jobs) and Matthew Webber (Wellingborough RT).

The five leaders were content to stay in the bunch until the forty minute mark when they attacked again pulling out a second lap. At the bell Smith and Brooks go clear with the Liphook rider proving too strong for local rider Brooks. Webber took the final podium spot.

In the earlier third cat race Austin Head (Wightlink LCM System CT) went away after 14mins and soloed away for six to eight minutes before finally catching the bunch taking the lap. Once in the bunch Austin waited his time and on 28mins attacked again and this time he had help as Dave Bentley (Somerset RC) offered help working together and this time the lap was taken quickly.

In between the leaders and the bunch were three riders Kris Collins (Team Wiggle), Gavin Mitchell (Twickenham CC) and James Brickell (Fareham Wheelers) and it was these five that took the top honours in the race. There was only one women entry and that was Jessica Finney (University of Portsmouth CRT)
