Report
In Beverley (East Yorkshire) on Friday night, Australian Brenton Jones added yet another victory to his collection of wins when he won the bunch kick at the end of the Beverley Grand Prix.
Whether its a Prem or Crit, the JLT Condor has shown time and time again he’s the fastest sprinter in the country and after his his teammate Jon Mould went for a long one a few laps out, but was caught, Jone’s teammates set him up perfectly for the sprint victory. Jones won the race ahead of teammate and series leader Matt Gibson, with BIKE Channel Canyon’s Harry Tanfield in third.
The race began with Raleigh GAC riders hitting the front and smashing it and even though riders like Adria Moreno got clear for several laps, breaks off the front were few and far between. On a fast and flowing circuit, it was looking more and more like it would end like last year, a bunch sprint and so it was despite Jon Mould’s best efforts.
Brenton Jones post race: “Having Jon out front was the plan. At 3 laps to go, we wanted Jon to have a real good dig; for Rus to slow the pace up a bit and Jon had a real good go. Madison (Genesis) chased and that mucked up their leadout a bit.”
“At the bottom corner with 250 to go, I think I was in sixth wheel, and Ed Clancy, Brigga, and Matt Gibson were all in front of me and that shows the strength of our team with four guys there to go for the sprint. For Matt and me to go 1-2 it was a great night for us. The circuit was good and fast ….”
Harry Tanfield “I just didn’t have the gas; Brenton is just world class. The circuit suits me being flat and fast but it was a shame it was not a bit more aggressive like it has been in previous years with breaks and stuff.”
“The final lap was pretty straight forward, JLT were ramming it like they had been and I went really early because I knew it was a tailwind and last year I got badly caught out. So this year I was alongside Brenton, in about eighth wheel and I took it up and had a lot of speed with two or three corners to go.”
“Enrique (Sanz, raleigh GAC) had gone for along one, and he was dying on the inside on the last corner. I dived up the inside of them all there, and found a gap and was about third wheel, and Brenton was far back and screaming for them to go. Then Brenton came from sixth or seventh wheel and came past me like a train, and so I just kept going flat stick to the line like you do …”

Into the middle part of the race and Madison Genesis were now the team with their colours pinned to the front
In between attacks, JLT Condor had numbers on the front, a lot of them, seven in all here!
But Raleigh GAC weren’t finished and Adria Moreno had another go …
And then in the closing laps, Jon Mould tried to pull off the solo win but it wasn’t to be …
… and Madison Genesis chased him down with Jonny McEvoy leading here
