Connor Swift (Madison genesis) has said racing the Tour de Yorkshire in the British road race champions jersey will be a special experience.

Speaking at the 2019 Tour de Yorkshire route unveiling, Swift gave his initial reaction to the four stages – the first of which starts in his hometown of Doncaster.

“I think the route is fantastic. There are a couple of stages in there that are quite short. We saw something similar at the Tour of Britain and it makes great racing, full gas from the start.

“To have the big stage on final day, I was in the break this year and it wasn’t nice! It’s twisty, small roads, hard climbs and it should be good fun to watch.” If selected, Swift will compete in the race with the national champions jersey on his back – something he has already experienced – and looks forward to experiencing again in his home county”.

“I raced in the national champions jersey this year at the Tour of Britain and having the jersey really raised my profile as a rider, there were lots of fans asking for pictures and selfies and for me to sign stuff.

“So doing this in my home county will be special. It’s a race I’ve watched on the road, I’ve dashed around in my car to watch it at as many points as I could. It will be something special to race it in the jersey.”

The 2019 Tour de Yorkshire takes place from May 2-5, starting in Doncaster and finishing in Leeds.
