Post race report: Adam Kenway

One of the riders chasing Matt Bottrill for most of the race was Adam Kenway of Vitus Pro Cycling p/b Brother UK. We had a quick chat post race where he explained early on the race was splitting simply because it was so hard into the head wind and if you chose the wrong wheel, splits would happen.

Hence the scratch group blew apart after only a few laps and Adam as intend on taking the race on. “We (his team) were working hard for a few laps and we could see it was splitting behind so I thought I’d push on a bit. A group of about eight of us formed and we caught two groups. The first one was splitting and then the front one from which Matt Bottrill had already gone from which we didn’t know at the time”.

“Once we’d caught that front group, I pushed on and Simon Wilson (Ribble Pro Cycling) came with me and we rode together chasing Matt for the majority of the race. After about 15 laps, we heard the gap was 1.30 and we thought we’ll try and keep there until five or six laps to go and then hit it but by that point we got caught by a group from behind.”

“In the group was Scott (Thwaites, a teammate), so I tried to chase down as much as I could”. Summing up the race, he said “the legs were good but it was probably the windiest race I’ve been in when it comes to a headwind. At one point, going down the tailwind section into the cross wind, Si carried straight on into the field so it was really really windy and that headwind section was brutal”.

Adam then had to leave quickly for France only for that race to be cancelled because of the wind there…
