Nuun-Sigma Sports-London Race Team, the popular London-based amateur cycling team, has announced its 2020 line-up of riders and sponsors

News: Nuun-Sigma Sports-London Race Team
Team heads into eighth season
Established in 2012 by Cameron Fraser, the team is a regular sight at top-tier races such as the Tour Series, Lincoln GP, National track meets plus numerous National B and regional track races across the south. Often lining-up alongside top professional riders in the UK and abroad, the team’s focus is as much on creating high quality content for sponsors as crossing the finish line first. This devotion to generate engaging, accessible content from a squad consisting of riders all with full-time jobs is cited as the secret to the team’s successful and long term relationship with its sponsors.
Nuun-Sigma Sports-London ended 2019, its most winningest season to date, as the 8th ranked team in the UK. The team took 53 race wins on the road and track, including eight wins on the road, a World Masters Track Championship title, two National Masters Criterium titles, one National Masters Road Race title and one National Masters Track Championship title; wins at both Scottish Elite Track and Criterium Championships, an international stage race win; and a National level stage race win. This impressive haul of victories was achieved by 13 riders and three dedicated volunteer support staff all balancing race commitments with full time employment.
As the teams’ very first sponsor, Nuun Hydration continues its co-title sponsorship whilst Sigma Sports, a leading multi-sports retailer, is continuing its many years of commitment to supporting the team as co-title sponsor. With its famed flagship store in South West London and recent announcement to open a second multi-sports store in Oakham, Rutland, Sigma Sports is an incredible resource for the 2020 season.

There’s just one new addition to the team in David Hewett, formerly of Ribble Pro Cycling continental team, who joins for the 2020 season. This will be David’s 7th season on the road, having ridden for teams in both the UK and Belgium, in which time he has won several National B road races, secured 4th in a Belgian 1.12B kermesse, won two regional races in Spain and achieved a top 10 position in a UCI 2.2, as well as recording many impressive TT performances. Since graduating in 2016, David competed full-time for three years and lived abroad in Girona whilst running his own e-commerce business, before deciding to move to London last June to start work as a management consultant, which he now balances alongside training.
Retaining many of the team’s 2019 riders, the 13 strong team will look to continue to race mainly in the UK with trips to France, Belgium and Spain throughout the season. Sadly, Martin Lonie, who has had one of his most successful seasons ever in 2019, departs for Australia with his wife Anna to start a new life. Martin will continue to fly the team flag down under for the remainder of the 2020 season and the team wishes him and his wife all the best for their future.
In a quantum shift in the ‘Service Course’, and after months of working with its sponsors, the team has now transitioned fully across to disc brake road and time trial bike platforms with Cannondale providing their technologically advanced SystemSix road bikes and SuperSlice time trial machines. Adding to the increased performance of disc brakes, the team will continue racing on ENVE’s 5.6 SES tubeless disc wheelset with Continental’s GP5000 tubeless tyres. This combination of race bike, wheels and tyres are well-suited to the road and weather conditions in the UK, particularly early season.

Cameron Fraser, rider and team owner of Nuun-Sigma Sports-London said “After such a strong year in 2019 it’s great to once again show that sustainability is possible in the current UK cycling climate through providing a great return on investment for our sponsors in the form of continuous cycling content whilst operating the team within its means. Once again we sadly saw more teams and riders hanging up their wheels at the end of last season, but as Nuun-Sigma Sports-London starts its 8th season we’ve once again reaped the reward for the hard work behind the scenes, developing long-term relationships and the team and riders delivering a good return to the sponsors year-on-year.”
“I am very thankful to our sponsors who continue to show their support for the team and hope that British Cycling will work together more closely with teams and organisers to reach a sustainable model for amateur and professional cycling in the UK. We are also proud to continue supporting amateur racing through the regular donation of top prizes to race organisers, providing Neutral Service support in road races through our sponsored vehicles and supporting youth racing at Herne Hill Velodrome, which continues to produce the next tier of British cycling talent”.
