This weekend: RTTC National Circuit Championship

This Sunday, the best time trialists descend on Naseby for the RTTC National Circuit Championship including one for Road Bikes. Event is part of the Merlin Cycles Classic Series

This weekend: RTTC National Circuit Championship

Many of the best time trialists and roadmen (women) will be racing at the Naseby (Northamptonshire) on Sunday for the RTTC for the National Circuit Championships. The course, on a circuit of lanes north of Nazeby, will see the riders racing 32.5 miles which is three laps of the circuit.

Each of the events are stacked with favourites. In the women’s TT race, Alex Clay competes and in 2020 Alex was a very consistent rider medalling in number of championships and is a big favourite for the womens TT along with Hayley Simmonds. Other riders to look out for are Lucy Gadd who was in great form at the Elite womens crit on Monday with second place. Abi Smith is another who is showing well of late as is Jennifer George whilst Frankie Hall was on fire on Monday, lighting up the Elite race at her home university and finishing third.

In the Men’s TT race, Chris Fennell, who was one of the big stars of the Time Trial Championships in 2020, is the over whelming favourite whilst Simon Wilson (Ribble Weldtite) is no slouch either and a proper battle in the lanes between these two is expected. 10 Champion in 2020 Dan Bigham though may trump both of them and can’t be discounted for the victory. Other names who will be there or thereabouts are Ashley Cox, George Peden, Phil Williams and Thomas Day.

A category on the up is one for road bikes and this one has a few names in it and should see a good battle for the honours. Adam Kenway will line up for new sponsor Brother UK whilst his teammate Rebecca Richardson (also Brother UK) will be one of the favs for the women’s race. back to the mens, and top roadman, Mikey Mottram should be battling for the win as will Roy Chamberlain.

In the Junior TT category, the competition may well be the best of the whole event. There are so many young and up coming talents. In the Women’s comp, a legend in the making, Zoe Backstedt, was right up in there the overalls at Castle Combe. Competition from the likes of Eva Callinan, Flora Perkins, Millie Couzens and others will make for a great race. In the Junior Men’s, there is more great talent coming through like Joshua Tarling, Harrison Tacey, and Lance Childs but sadly, there are just as many great juniors not there as there are competing.

Overall, its going to be a great start to the RTTC’s Championship season ….
